Women’s Discussion Group

Women of the World – Unite!

The Saint Columba House Women’s Discussion Group offers opportunities for mutual support, reflection, participation, socialization and solidarity. For many years, this dynamic group of women has explored a range of issues, has shared many wonderful experiences and has participated in many actions to help women find their voice and their place in the community and wider society.

The Women’s Discussion group meets monthly to listen to guest speakers, go on outings, and to participate in workshops on a wide range of topics from preparing a last will and testament to caring for disabled children or aging parents. The group supports each other through good times and difficult ones and each participant knows that they have a support network to turn to when needed.

Frequent visits and exchanges with other women’s groups in the community of Point St. Charles are another important element of the Women’s Discussion Group. Several joint activities have taken place over the past year with Madame Prend Congé.

The Saint Columba House Women’s Discussion Group stretches across continents and oceans to reach out to other women in struggle. Following an inspiring visit from the Montreal and Area Grandmothers Fellowship, the Women’s Discussion Group learned of the plight of the South African GoGos, grandmothers raising their grandchildren orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. They have been busy knitting quilts and raising funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation in support of these courageous women through such activities as bake sales or a voluntary contribution at our annual celebration of International Women’s Day. This dynamic and lively group of women knows how to have fun while making a difference in the world!
