Community Development Program

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
(Margaret Mead)

Saint Columba House provides leadership in and beyond the community of Point Saint Charles on issues, actions and campaigns affecting the quality of life of community residents, people living on low-incomes and people with limited access to support and power. Saint Columba House is an active member of the Action Watchdog Community Coalition of Point St. Charles.

Saint Columba House works alongside a number of community and church bodies to seek justice, animate campaigns, build networks and promote collective action on a wide variety of issues. It serves as a bridge between the church and community helping each to better understand and support the other.

Save the post office manifestation - 2007-12-13

Saint Columba House has worked hard over the years on such important local campaigns as the anti-Casino campaign, the campaign to save St. Gabriel School and the Campaign to save the local post office. Through our work with the Action Watchdog Community Coalition, we have closely followed developments with the CN Lands, and have participated in city consultations on large development projects such as the Nordelec building and the Griffintown proposal. We are attentive to and bear witness about the problems currently facing the community of rampant gentrification, the shrinking rental housing stock, lack of green spaces, and environmental degradation.

Through its community development program, Saint Columba House seeks to help those most marginalized to have a voice in the future development of their own community.
